NICARAGUA

Facts about Nicaragua:

  • Deaf population: 26,159

  • Religion: 90% Christian, of whom 73% identify as Catholic

  • Due to very little access to the Bible or church in their heart language,           less than 200 deaf people have been introduced to the Gospel.

Arlen and Mauricio Aguilar

Mauricio and his wife Arlen are from Managua, Nicaragua. Mauricio graduated from Sunset International Bible Institute in 2021 with a Bachelor of Biblical Studies. Arlen is currently a student of SIBI.

 

​Mauricio and Arlen are now full-time Bible translators and language facilitators working with Pioneer Bible Translators.

Jose Cisneros

Jose is a young, ambitious student from Managua, Nicaragua. He is passionate about studying God's Word and is currently enrolled at Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI).

 

Goal: Jose's ultimate goal is to become a minister and establish a Bible training program to equip future ministers and leaders in Nicaragua.

ETHIOPIA

Facts about Ethiopia:

  • Deaf population: 1,233,000

  • Primary language of the Deaf: Ethiopian Sign Language

Nebeiyu Mussie Tesfayohannis

Nebeiyu is from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is a full-time minister for the Church of Christ for the Deaf for 29 years. He is married to Zufan and the father of 4 children. Currently, he is a student of Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) for Biblical study.

Goal: Nebeiyu wants to train his people to take a greater role in evangelism work all over his country, Ethiopia.

Deborah Nebeiyu

Deborah is also from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She is the daughter of Nebeiyu Mussie.  She is currently a student of Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI).

Goal: She wants to work in collaboration with her father as an interpreter, and maybe get involved with Pioneer Bible Translators, God willing, to expand and further His Kingdom.

LIBERIA

Facts about Liberia:

  •  Deaf population: 53,000

  • Primary Language of the Deaf: American Sign Language

  • Religion: 41.43% Christian

  • Less than 2% of the deaf are Christian

Hadassah Josselyn

Hadassah and her brother were adopted from Liberia by Joseph and Nicole Josselyn. Presently, Hadassah is pursuing her studies at Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) with the help of DIM and expects to finish in 2024.

Goal: Hadassah's objective is to return to Liberia as a missionary, in hopes of impacting the deaf community to embrace Christ as their Savior.

MALAWI

Facts about Malawi:

  • Deaf population: 203,000

  • 98% of deaf individuals in Malawi have not had access to the Bible

Willie Mphaka

Willie is a resident of Malawi. He is happily married to Ketashi Mtambo and a proud father of four children. With the support of DIM, Willie is currently pursuing his studies at Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI). Last summer, he actively participated in the WBS Red Chariot Gospel team's mission to spread the word of God to the deaf across Malawi.

 

Goal: Willie's ultimate goal is to preach the gospel and establish deaf churches throughout his homeland.

CAMEROON

Facts about Camernoon:

  • Deaf population: 279,000

  • 98% of deaf individuals in Cameroon have not been exposed to the Bible

Benard Empoh

Benard is a dedicated student from Cameroon who is currently studying at SIBI. Thanks to DIM's generous assistance, he has been able to pursue his Biblical studies with great enthusiasm.

 

Goal: His ultimate passion and goal is to become a teacher and preacher, spreading the powerful message of the Gospel to the deaf community in his country, thereby illuminating their lives with God's love.

SRI LANKI

Facts about Sri Lanka:

  • Deaf population: over 300,000

  • Religion: 70.2% Buddhist, 7.4% Christian

Shashini Kaushalaya

Shashini is from Ambalantota, Sri Lanka. She is married to Prasad and has a 4-year-old daughter named Abby. Shashini knows 7 sign languages including British, Kenyan, American, Indian, Sri Lankan, and others. In 2023, she enrolled in Sunset International Bible Institute.

​Goal: Shashini wants to get involved with Pioneer Bible Translators knowing that she can help to translate God's Word into her native language in Sri Lanka.
